im really enjoying being at the end of a decade. its the first one i can remember all of; the first one i can feel like, five years ago wasnt that long ago. i guess it is though!
i have a few decade digests to roll out. first up is concerts. this is late decade heavy because not as many bands went through scotland as they do in vancouver, and also i can afford to go to a lot more of them now!
THUNDERHEIST @ montreal 2009 – they were so jacked on stage and the girl was amazing. do not miss the opportunity !!!
Ra Ra Riot @ vancouver 2009 – magical
guillemots @ glasgow 2006 – these guy’s first album was so incredible and we saw them in a dingy basement club in glasgow. second album was awful. though fyfe is doing some solo stuff that sounds ok
goldie @ aberdeen 2000 – this was amaaaazing. serg and i drove up from edinburgh for one night and he put on the most crazy explosive show!

tv on the radio @ vancouver 2009 – as if theyre not cool enough, we got this on a summers eve outdoors in stanley park

the foals @ vancouver 2008 – i loved it. vancouver folk didnt quite get them tho! british math rock.

the xx @ vancouver 2009 – the best band of 2009 did not disappoint on their first canadian outing

panic! at the disco @ vancouver 2007 – this was an unreal burlesque show with circus performers. amazing show including a great cover of eleanor rigby

friendly fires @ vancouver 2009 – total characters
frightened rabbit @ san francisco 2009 – cant not have a scottish band in this list. they were great.

metric 2008 – sucked
death cab for cutie 2008 – boring
thievery corporation 2009 – shouldve stayed in the 90s
coldplay 2008 – well i knew i wouldnt like this one
dirty projectors 2009 – i dont get it
the national 2007 – just a bad night
the absolute worst of this millennium has to be given to guitar legend Jeff Beck (Ottawa 2008) who is a hundred years old and still wearing crazy glam rock glitter spandex from the 70s with a crosss-breed haircut of Brian May and Rod Stewart. Just like sports stars, you gotta retire with grace. Jeff missed that theory. we left after forty minutes of utter drivel and stumbled on an amazing samba band who were a lot more fun!

2012 is going to be the year the world ends. i’m not so convinced the world ends, but maybe humanity could. philosophers and ‘crazy’ people alike have long linked 2012 with the end of it for us. volcanic eruptions; typhoons; earthquakes! it sounds such a glorious end! what if its not like that;we humans love to romanticise everything. maybe we all die of a plague, like the piggy one, so severe we cant find a fix.humans are resilient and fended off many a natural enemy or epidemic.
This piggy bank is a mould of a real pig by Harry Allen. he died (the pig) of an illness and his body was donated to art. i think art is just as important as life because life would be awful without art. i’d like to donate my body to art when im done.
check these mexicalts out who also believe in art as much as life. if we cant express ourself and show creativity in the time of a disaster then we’ll never succeed in overcoming them.
what would picasso have painted and drawn if the spanish civil war wasnt on? why dont artists use the ‘wars’ in the middle east as stimulus? what would you paint your mask like? could you paint a war? do people still paint? i guess it doesnt pay. Or do people just like to cut up photos and merge them together using the popular desktop application adobe photoshop?
i think humans are pretty cool. we’ll make it happen, even if we cant paint anymore

2. Once the idea made a LOT of sense, The yes game became life! next step was a vow to keep saying yes!
3. The middle was doing it! yessing/websites/personal branding/more yesses!
you never move half way across the world;
you never meet amazing people;
you never see the world;
you never have a good career;
you never succeed in life without saying YES!!!
4. The result was happiness!!!

religion, contrast, fighting, love
the tags used by the band on their video are YACHT Psychic City DFA See Mystery Lights Claire Evans Jona Bechtolt Rich Jensen Judah Switzer triangle triangles Christianity Mormonism Scientology Catholicism Islam Freemasonry Druid Eleusinian ritual mystery
maybe its that love is stronger than religion. it is our strongest belief. i dont know. feeling a little less intelligent for not getting the art. epic pash at the end !
yes: any film with an animated bird is cool in my books
yes: its not a love story. she’s a bitch. he’s a softy.
yes: the morning after dance scene. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2009/07/16/movies/20090716-500days-feature.html (doesnt really do it justice on the web)
yes: the cast were great. to be honest, i didnt like the main characters, but the acting was great
yes: zo0e deschanel. even though she’s still playing the same edgy dry role as every other flick she’s been in. and of course, she sings – i think she has it in every film contract that she must sing!
yes: LA. its not often LA gets looked at from a heritage builfing perspective, and theres loads of cool looking stuff
yes: the soundtrack. loads of indy fun! AND Hall and Oates (see the dance!)
yes: the pain you feel for the guy cos its so obviously doomed from the start!
I’ve always found it hard to explain why Scots have a chip on their shoulder about the English, and what it means to be British. After explaining that Scotland is part of Britain, other nations just brush it aside as the auld rivalry. Its more than that – its a culture. check the very talented Limmy out for a great view into the daily drag that is engrained in Scots as they watch ‘national’ TV.
nuff said. Cheers Limmy.
